Lightning May Be Blamed For Man's Death

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A man was found burned to death in Fort Worth early Wednesday morning, and police are trying to determine if he was struck by lightning. It happened just after 2:00 a.m. in the 3500 block of Martin Street, in the southeastern part of the city.

Officers arrived at a home and discovered a 23-year-old man dead outside with severe burns across his body. But there was no evidence of a fire anywhere nearby. The name of the man has not yet been released.

The victim's brother was also injured while trying to put out flames on the man. He was transported to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth and is expected to be okay.

Homicide detectives arrived at the scene, however, investigators are looking at the possibility that the victim was struck by lightning during storms which moved over North Texas on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The victim's father later said that he thinks his son might have committed suicide my lighting himself on fire.
