ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Light Up Arlington packed the streets in front of Levitt Pavilion for their annual fireworks spectacular.

This year many new comers turned out to the event. With so many fireworks shows cancelled do to flooding across the metroplex, Light Up Arlington became the place to be on the eve of the Fourth of July.

Esther Aguirre who has seen fireworks at Joe Pool Lake for 22 years said this is her first time at the Arlington display.

She added, "The lake is closed there are no fireworks there."

Despite concerns nationwide of terror threats at large July Fourth gatherings people turned out by the thousands to see the show across from city hall.

Zack Perch, an Arlington resident said "We've got things going on in the country that kind of bringing people together kind of making people stand up. It's a nice place to be right now."

Thousands more are expected for the holiday parade on Saturday morning near city hall. It begins at 9 a.m. but crowds are urged to show up no later than 8 a.m.
