CARLSBAD, N.M. (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Prosecutors say they're seeking a life prison sentence without parole for a Euless man accused of killing his North Texas girlfriend last year in southeastern New Mexico.
A jury trial for 33-year-old Robert Glenn Earley is scheduled to begin April 28 in Carlsbad.
Earley, of Euless, faces felony charges of murder, tampering with evidence and kidnapping in the death of Emily Rebecca Lambert. The 30-year-old schoolteacher and mother of two was killed while in New Mexico to visit Earley, an oil field worker. Her body was found on a ranch near Loving on March 4, 2014.
According to an arrest report, Earley initially made up a story about Lambert leaving the motel room the two were sharing in Carlsbad and running off with a truck driver. He later admitted to getting into a physical fight with Lambert, hitting and kicking her in the mouth until she became unconscious.
Lambert was a teacher at O. Henry Elementary School, part of the Richardson Independent School District. She reportedly had only been dating Earley for a few months when she was killed.
New Mexico has prohibited capital punishment since 2007.
