Lewisville & Southlake Opt-In To Aerial Spraying
LEWISVILLE (CBS 11 NEWS) - Several major North Texas cities have made decisions about aerial spraying for the West Nile virus. Plano is a 'no' when it comes to spraying from the air. But the cities of Lewisville -- hit hard by the virus -- and Southlake have said 'yes' to aerial spraying.
Lewisville is in Denton County, which just recorded its third West Nile death. Denton County Health Director Dr. Bing Burton told Lewisville City Council members that it was a man with underlying health conditions who was visiting from Nebraska. He died back in his home state.
In the meantime, Denton County is preparing for aerial spraying. Denton County Judge Mary Horn will hold a press conference at Denton County Commissioners Court on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. to announce all of the cities that have opted in for aerial spraying.
So far, Denton County municipalities for aerial spraying include: Aubrey, Corral City, Crossroads, Dish, Double Oak, Flower Mound, Hackberry, Krum, Lake Dallas, Lakewood Village, Lewisville, Lincoln Park, Northlake, Pilot Point, Ponder, Sanger and Trophy Club.
Those opting out of aerial spraying in Denton County include: Carrollton, Coppell, Dallas, Denton, Haslet, Hebron, Plano, Providence Village and The Colony.
The Denton County Health Department recommended aerial spraying when the county declared a health emergency last week. Aerial spraying in Denton County is expected to begin Thursday. The City of Southlake, which voted for aerial spraying on Monday night, is also expected to begin the process on Thursday, weather permitting.
