LBJ/I-35 Toll Connector Not Ready Until Next Week

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - The much anticipated LBJ toll connector to I-35E did not open Saturday as planned.

Project engineers said sections of road still need to be striped and several signs hung, so the grand opening was called-off at the last minute.

"We don't look at this as a delay," said Dia Kuykendall, spokesperson of the LBJ Express. "We look at this as an opportunity to go ahead and finish the work as quickly as possible."

Crews hoped to have the new express toll lanes ready for use by late next week.

The decision to not open the express lanes on Saturday came late Friday night – just one day after TxDOT held a news conference in anticipation of the opening.

The managed toll lanes run from Josey Lane and I-635 and connect to I-35E and Loop 12 south of the I-35 / Loop 12 split, and north to I-35E before Valley View Lane.

Rates on the 3.6 miles of toll lanes will fluctuate depending on congestion on the freeway. The more congested there is on LBJ, the more drivers will have to pay.
