DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There is a traffic alert for drivers in Dallas this weekend. A closure of the LBJ Freeway will really slow down motorists. The westbound lanes of the highway will be shut down starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday night.

The roadway is being closed so that construction crews can work on signage and place the final layer of pavement along the highway's main lanes. This is part of the LBJ Express project, which officials stated is now 96 percent completed.

The $3.1 billion project started in 2011 and has expanded the highway and its frontage lanes, along with adding bypass lanes and TEXpress lanes to the passageway. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

All westbound lanes of the LBJ Freeway between Webb Chapel Road and Interstate-35E will be closed starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday night. Traffic will be detoured to the frontage road. Then, at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night, all westbound lanes between Greenville Avenue and TI Boulevard will be closed. Again, traffic will be detoured to the frontage road.

The highway is expected to be opened back up at 6:00 a.m. on Monday morning. Drivers going through this part of the Metroplex this weekend are advised to seek alternate routes. Check the traffic map to find a way around the congestion.
