Lawmakers on TV
If the Texas House was on television would you watch? For years lawmakers have wanted to have live proceedings of the legislature on television but it's never happened says San Antonio Representative Joaquin Castro. "The state level of government is the only level of government that can't be viewed on television." The one exception is in Austin during the legislative session and that's only House and Senate floor debate, not things like committee meetings. Castro says 107 House members have signed off on the idea of creating such a channel but there are many logistical questions and a matter of coming up with a quarter of a million dollars to pay for it.
