Las Vegas, Good Burgers & Forrest Griffin
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Forrest Griffin is one of my favorite UFC fighters. I have always enjoyed his humor and wit outside the octagon and it's hard not to root for a guy that leaves everything inside the cage every time he fights.
Las Vegas is my favorite place in America (maybe the world- I haven't traveled much). When I had the chance to talk to the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion I couldn't help but attempt to combine two of my favorite things.
Almost two and half years ago I made the very long drive with my wife and a good buddy to see Forrest vs. Tito 2. It was a trip to Vegas so it was obviously fun but the coolest part to us is what happened about four and a half hours(2:00am Vegas time) after Bruce Buffer announced that Forrest had won the fight. My wife and I had decided to stop by BLT Burger in The Mirage for a late night burger. Burgers were really good and I didn't think the night could get any better. I was wrong. We were on our way out of the restaurant when I bumped into this large hairy ape-like figure. It was Forrest! He was heading to the same burger joint that I just left. I stopped and verbally beat him down like any true fight fan would and he could not have been any cooler, even with stitches in his forehead.
That experience has caused me to visit BLT Burger in The Mirage every time that I have been to Vegas since. The reason is due to the fact that Forrest is a local in Vegas. He lives and trains here full time so if that's the place he goes for his late night munchies, that's where I am going.
I had the chance to talk to Forrest today about our first meeting (listen how he pretends to remember). I also asked if BLT Burger was in fact the best late night destination in Vegas. He did confirm although he brought up a dark horse in the race that I was unaware of. He said that LBS. A Burger Joint which is located in the Red Rock Hotel and Casino is also up there on his list. I will definitely make that trip when I am back for Jones and Henderson in September.
