Las Colinas Country Club Worker Gets Prison Over Taxes

FORT WORTH (AP) — A former accounting manager for a Las Colinas  country club must serve nearly two years in prison for not paying taxes on money he allegedly embezzled.

Jeffrey James of Richland Hills was sentenced Friday in Fort Worth after being convicted of tax evasion. A federal judge also ordered James to pay nearly $33,000 in restitution.

Prosecutors say James, for 15 years, worked as director of club accounting at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving. Investigators say James between 2006 and 2009 embezzled more than $250,000 and evaded taxes by failing to disclose the stolen money on his IRS return.

James must report to prison later this month.
