Lancaster Man Tied To Federal Agent's Murder In Mexico
LANCASTER (CBSDFW.COM) - One of three Lancaster men arrested in an alleged gun-running scheme Monday morning has ties to the killing of a U.S. ICE agent in Mexico, according to an affidavit released Monday.
Members of a drug cartel killed customs officer Jaime Zapata during what Mexican police termed a phony traffic stop on February 15.
A federal affidavit accompanying Monday's arrests says one of the guns used in the attack was traced to a gun purchased by 22-year-old Otilio Osorio on Oct.10, 2010.
The affidavit says the gun was a Draco 7.62 and was bought at a North Texas gun store. On Monday Otilio Osorio, his brother Ranferi Osorio, 27, and a neighbor, Kelvin Leon Morrison – all from Lancaster – were arrested.
The men faced a federal magistrate on Monday and two will have further court appointments Tuesday.
The affidavit also alleges the men were stopped last November with 40 firearms in their possession. U.S. Justice Department officials said they will release more information Tuesday.
