Lancaster ISD Police Chief Facing 5 Felony Charges
LANCASTER (CBSDFW.COM) - The police chief of the Lancaster Independent School District has been indicted on five felony charges.
Keith Wilkerson is accused of a number of charges including, sexual assault, insurance fraud and official oppression.
School board member Jeff Melcher said that while he is disappointed, he will wait for the legal process to play out. "We are shocked. We're hoping that it's not true; we're gonna do some due diligence on that," he said. "I think that we are treating it just the way that any large organization treats this kind of thing."
On Thursday, the school district posted a memo from the superintendent on the district website. According to that letter, another school district employee made the allegations against Wilkerson.
Melcher said that up until the allegations and criminal indictment he felt Wilkerson was doing a good job. "It's very disappointing to have somebody you are pleased with disappoint you in this fashion."
Wilkerson was placed on administrative leave in November, just after the school board found out he was under investigation. He has been with the Lancaster ISD since 2002.
