Lancaster High School Wins 5A Boys' Basketball Title

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Elijah Thomas, the top-ranked basketball recruit in Texas, scored 17 points to lead top-ranked Lancaster past Beaumont Ozen 59-47 to take the Class 5A boys' title Saturday.

Thomas, who has committed to Texas A&M University, grabbed nine rebounds and scored 10 first-quarter points. That gave the Tigers an early 16-5 lead before Thomas picked up his second foul and sat out nine minutes of the first half. The 6-foot-9 Thomas converted seven of eight shots from the field and was named the championship game's Most Valuable Player.

Antwon Portley led Lancaster (34-4) with 21 points and added eight rebounds.

John Comeaux led Ozen (33-4) with 15 points and six rebounds. Christian Bolton led Ozen with eight rebounds.
