Lakewood Country Club Back Open After Hail

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The scars can still be seen across Dallas County after last month's hail storm caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. Famous landmarks -- like the Lakewood Theater's iconic neon sign -- took a beating. But at least one historic site in northeast Dallas is finally starting to recover.

It has been about two weeks since the powerful hail storm pelted Lakewood Country Club during an amateur golf tournament. The course has been closed since June 13. But it is set to re-open on Tuesday with limited play after extensive repairs.

All 18 greens are being redone, which has been the most challenging aspect of the repairs. Thousands of dollars worth of outdoor furniture are being replaced. The most extensive damage was done to the exterior of the club -- parts of the clubhouse were dinged up and skylights were blown out. In addition to these damages, dozens of cars in the parking lot had windshields shattered by hail.

Other area golf courses have been helping out with Lakewood Country Club's recovery efforts. The course will be fully repaired by the fall.
