Bynum Apologizes For Cheap Shot On Barea
EL SEGUNDO, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum offered an apology for the flagrant foul he committed against Dallas' J.J. Barea in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals on Sunday.
Appearing before the media on Tuesday after the team's season-ending exit interviews, Bynum commented on the incident.
"I want to apologize for my actions in Dallas," Bynum said. "They don't represent me, my upbringing or this franchise."
In the fourth quarter of Sunday's 122-86 drubbing that eliminated the Lakers from the playoffs, Bynum delivered an elbow to the ribs just beneath the right armpit of Barea, who was driving the lane for a layup. Barea hit the floor hard and Bynum was quickly ejected.
Bynum removed his jersey as he walked off the court and past the Dallas bench, where players were being held back.
Bynum was suspended for two games in March for a similarly hard foul on Minnesota's Michael Beasley.
