Kyle Memorial Could Be Largest Ever In Texas

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Monday's public service at Cowboys Stadium for former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle could very well be the largest public memorial service for a military member ever in the state of Texas.

Thousands are expected to attend. Melanie Wheeler said that she is bringing her whole family. She worked alongside Kyle in Baghdad for a few weeks. She said that she always viewed Kyle as a mentor. "To me, he was like invincible because of all the things he had ever been through from being in Iraq with him," she said.

The deadliest sniper in U.S. history was killed a week ago at an Erath County gun range when, police said, a man who Kyle was trying to help turned a gun on him.

The service for Kyle begins Monday at 1:00 p.m. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Live coverage from the memorial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on CBSDFW.COM and on air with CBS 11 News. No cameras, bags or purses will be allowed inside the stadium, however. Parking is free in lots 1, 2 and 10. Guests will enter through gates A and K.

Visitors can bring flowers. The flowers will be displayed on the field and can be dropped off Monday morning at either Gate A or Gate K on the north end of Cowboys Stadium.

On Tuesday, thousands are expected to line the 200-mile procession from Midlothian to Austin where Kyle will be buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
