Kyle Busch Wins Another Nationwide Race At Texas
FORT WORTH (AP) — Kyle Busch won the Nationwide Series race in Fort Worth on Saturday, giving him a chance for a tripleheader sweep this weekend.
It was Busch's 141st victory in NASCAR's top three series and record-extending 70th in the Nationwide Series. He also was won 29 times in the Sprint Cup Series and his 42nd victory in the Camping World Truck Series came Friday night at the high-banked, 1 1/2-mile track.
He has 15 victories this season, seven each in Nationwide and Truck and one in Cup.
Busch led 116 of 200 laps and finished 1 1/2 seconds ahead of Joey Logano, giving Joe Gibbs Racing its 100th Nationwide victory.
While Busch is out of contention in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, he will start ninth Sunday with a chance to complete his first NASCAR weekend trifecta since the fall of 2010 at Bristol.
Nationwide season leader Chase Elliott finished fourth, moving 48 points ahead of Regan Smith with two races left. Smith finished 11th.
Elliott was the only top-five finisher who is eligible for the season title in NASCAR's second-tier series. Ryan Blaney finished third, and Matt Kenseth was fifth.
Busch led six times, while Logano was in front five times for 59 laps. There were six consecutive lead changes involving the two from Lap 59 to 180.
Smith led for five laps when the leaders took their final green-flag stops with 20 laps left. Busch regained the lead on Lap 186, and held on from there.
Busch has 11 NASCAR victories at Texas, seven in Nationwide, three in Truck and one in the Cup. He won Nationwide and Truck races at Texas in the fall of 2009 before leading 232 laps in the Cup race but finishing 11th.
Elliott Sadler was credited with a ninth-place finish, even though the sick driver got out of the driver's seat on the first caution only nine laps into the race and gave way to Clint Bowyer.
Sadler woke up in the middle of the night with abdominal cramps. Bowyer qualified the car, but Sadler had to start the race to get credited with the finish and the points that came with it.
After pole-sitter Logano led the first 33 laps, Trevor Bayne took the lead.
Bayne was still in front 15 laps later when he had an apparent tire issue that sent his car into the outside wall coming out of Turn 1. The No. 6 car burst into flames, but Bayne escaped unharmed after rolling the car to a stop on the apron.
