Kudos To A-Rod
Today is a truly sad day in baseball. If you look at the all-time home run leaders in baseball, there is a part of the list that goes about like so….
Willie Mays
Alex Rodriguez
Ken Griffey Jr.
When I first see that, here's what comes to mind:
Saved by the Bell. Don't lie to yourself, you watched that show too, and it was awesome. Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski were the perfect couple that everyone cheered for. Until the unthinkable happened. Some stupid college sophomore stole Kelly away and left my little child face in tears. Why would anybody want to ruin something so perfect!?
Their relationship was baseball. And that college fella (His name was Jeff, and I hate myself to this day for it) was steroids.
Look at the two names that surround A-Rod on that list. In my arrogant opinion, the best two players in the history of the game, and they are forced to be sandwiched around a guy who cheated the game and the fans of an entire sport.
Baseball is special, it's the one game where so much of the measurement of a player is represented by numbers. Your batting average, home runs, etc. reflect how you did in your one on one matchup against a pitcher every day. The higher you are on different statistical lists, the better player you were.
Until PED's. Until an assault on the record books took place because of the influx of guys that used to be built like Steve Urkel started looking suspiciously like the Incredible Hulk.
The game seems to be getting a handle on getting the cheating out of the game, but it was there just long enough to put a lot of names in places they don't belong.
Double barrels to A-Rod (with a slight kudos for getting with Madonna.)
