KT's TV News & Notes
A lot is happening in the world of television, so I thought i'd try to bring some uniformity to the week and hit a few things on my mind from the week.
Thursday Night Football on CBS
CBS will air 8 Thursday Night Football games that will also be simulcast on the NFL Network. These games will be earlier in the season, with the NFL Network still having 6 normal Thursday Night games on it's own along with two Saturday Night games. I'm glad the Saturday Night late season games are back, as sometimes late in the NFL season, there's no college football on Saturdays and the NFL can help fill that void. I also love that sitcom ratings smash "The Big Bang Theory" will have to move off Thursday night so my favorite shows "Parks and Recreation" and "Community" won't have to square up against it anymore. Although "Parks and Recreation" and "Community" will still get smashed in the ratings by the NFL game, it's at least that's a given and they won't be compared to "The Big Bang Theory" anymore, which likely will earn "Parks" and "Community" a renewal for another season. Seems like a winning proposition for everyone involved.
Jay Leno's Exit
Jay Leno's final show as the host of "The Tonight Show" is Thursday night with guests Billy Crystal and Garth Brooks. I've never really found Jay Leno to be funny at all, and I still hold a little bit of a grudge against him for the way he and NBC collectively screwed over Conan O'Brien about 5 years ago. I'm really looking forward to the new tenure of Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers in the NBC block, while David Letterman and Craig Ferguson hold it down on CBS, and Jimmy Kimmel keeps working his magic on ABC, and Conan continues to mine gold, even though out of the spotlight. Letterman is likely the next to go, but he definitely has a few years left. I'm normally pretty progressive and a guy that likes to advance things, but when it comes to the late night shows, I've always been pretty consistent at checking them out on a nightly basis. Normally the guest involved dictates which program I watch, but I know I rarely find myself seeing what's going on with Leno. There's a reason his reputation and relationships with peers is very spotty. It'll be good to move on from him.
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead returns on Sunday night, and even though I talk trash about this show quite a bit due to it's sometimes lazy plot-holes, I'm actually really looking forward to checking out what the back half of this season has to offer. No matter what happens, it always has a way to suck me back in.
