Krum Damage Caused By Straight Line Winds

Here is a map from the National Weather Service showing the downburst winds in Krum (Denton County) from Sunday.  A damage assessment was done today to determine if a tornado hit in Krum.  They found the damage was done by straight line winds on the order of 80 to 85 mph.  This can be determined by looking at the pattern of the damage.  Basically by looking where the debris is laying you can tell whether the winds were swirling like a tornado, or coming from one direction like straight line winds.  The other damage we saw across North Texas was also caused by straight line winds according to the National Weather Service.  Winds in Tarrant, Wise and Johnson Counties were estimated to be between 65 and 80 mph.  Click on the map to make it bigger.
