Kroger Installing Electric Car Charging Stations

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texans driving electric cars will soon have more options when it comes to recharging their vehicles.

Kroger has teamed up with the company ECOtality to install nearly a dozen electric vehicle charging stations at local Kroger locations.

Four charging stations at stores in Arlington, Dallas and Fort Worth are already operational and six additional stations, at stores across the metroplex, are scheduled to open.

Kroger Southwest president Bill Breetz said in a statement Monday, "Our new partnership with ECOtality gives us the opportunity to provide our customers with convenience and a sustainable service that is growing in demand."

ECOtality is installing Blink® electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The 240-volt chargers can add between 12-15 miles in an hour.

Currently there is no charge for signing up for a Blink account and the charging stations will be free to use through the summer.

There are already 150 Blink charging stations in place across North Texas.

In all, Kroger will install some 20 EV charging stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this year. Installation at all the targeted stores is scheduled to be completed by August.
