Kolb To Start For Eagles Vs. Cowboys
PHILADELPHIA, PA (Sports Network) - Kevin Kolb will reportedly start at quarterback for the Eagles on Sunday when they take on Dallas in a meaningless game.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported the expected news Thursday. Michael Vick suffered a quad injury in Tuesday's 24-14 loss to the Vikings. The 10-5 Eagles are locked in as the No. 3 seed in the playoffs. Thus, Philadelphia will treat Sunday's game as a chance to rest most of its starters.
Kolb began the season as the starter, and was supposed to be Philadelphia's future QB, but suffered a concussion in Week 1 against the Packers. Vick played the rest of the game and almost brought the Eagles back in a 27-20 loss.
The following week against the Lions, Vick made his first pro start since 2006 due to Kolb's injury. Vick put on another impressive performance, completing 21-of-34 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 37 yards on seven carries in a 35-32 victory.
Head coach Andy Reid said after the game that Kolb would remain the starter when healthy. But a change of heart led to Reid naming Vick the permanent starter later in the week.
Vick, who will be the starting quarterback for the NFC in the Pro Bowl, led the Eagles to their first NFC East title since 2006.
Philadelphia had a chance for a first-round bye in this year's playoffs, but the Vikings ruined those hopes on Tuesday.
In 12 games, Vick has thrown for 3,018 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 676 yards and nine touchdowns to go with his 100.2 passer rating.
Kolb will make his fifth start of the season on Sunday. He has completed 97- of-153 passes for 1,035 yards, six touchdowns and four picks.
The Cowboys enter the final week of the regular season with a disappointing 5-10 record. Dallas, which had Super Bowl on its mind at the start of the year, will likely have third-stringer Stephen McGee under center against Philly.
