Kimball High School Mourns Crash Victims

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Students at Kimball High School in Dallas are heading back to campus on Tuesday without three classmates. They were among the six victims in a deadly single-car crash over the Labor Day weekend. A large crowd gathered at the crash site on Monday to mourn the losses.

Police said that a car with six people inside was traveling soutbound along Bonnie View Road when it struck a curb and ultimately slammed into a tree. Excessive speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Four of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The other victims later died at a hospital.

The three Kimball High School students were all football players -- Desedric Johnson, Trey Woodberry and Kentron Haskins. Family members and friends were very emotional on Monday night. "It's just so tragic," said Chaka Watkins, an aunt of Haskins who said that it all feels like a dream. "I can't explain it."

"He was a sweet young man," said family friend Dorothy Hawkins, speaking about Woodberry, "loving, kind and respectful."

The victims were all between 15 and 23 years old. The other three individuals were died in the violent crash were cousins -- Quatia Ervin, Kennisha Bradford and Jonathan Lang. Fellow cousin Gaylandya Bradford said that she had just seen them minutes before the Sunday night wreck. "It's real hard," she said. "I mean, they just left the house."

Kimball High School has encouraged students to wear black on Tuesday to honor their fallen classmates. Grief counselors will be available through the day for those struggling with this loss. The school's football team will be dedicating their game on Saturday night to those three players who are now gone.
