Kilpatrick Concerned About Parole Condition
DETROIT (AP) - Ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has expressed concern to Michigan prison officials about performing 16 hours of community service a month as a condition of his parole.
Earlier this year, the Michigan Department of Corrections said Kilpatrick must pay $500 in monthly restitution payments, up from $160. He also must perform the community service.
Kilpatrick wrote in an email obtained by The Detroit News through the Freedom of Information Act that he's concerned he wouldn't be able to fulfill the service requirement because of paid speeches on his calendar.
Kilpatrick tells the newspaper in an email he's met or exceeded the requirement. He's been volunteering at Tarrant Area Food Bank in Fort Worth, Texas.
Kilpatrick lives in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie. He's awaiting a federal corruption trial.
