Kidnapped Victim Discovered In Routine Traffic Stop
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Deputies with the Dallas County Sheriff's Department discovered a kidnapped man after pulling a vehicle over for speeding early Monday morning.
At approximately 12:15 a.m., deputies spotted a white Toyota Tundra traveling at a high rate of speed in a 60 mph zone. Officers noted a strong alcohol odor from the driver and began performing a field-sobriety test.
A second man then stepped out of the vehicle and began saying "malo mans", which translates from Spanish to "bad men". With the assistance of Spanish-speaking deputies, investigators determined that the man had been kidnapped and robbed by two suspects in the vehicle earlier that evening.
The victim, 34-year-old Manuel Torres, and the two suspects, Gregory Ramos Guzman, 43, and Ruben Segoviano ,38, revealed that the incident began with a vehicle collision earlier in the day. Segoviano and Guzman were driving near I-30 and Fort Worth Avenue when they were involved in a vehicle collision with the victim.
According to police, the two suspects proceeded to exit their vehicle and approach Torres demanding monetary compensation for the damage. After Torres stated that he had no money, the men got into an altercation and forced the victim to take the two men to his house to get property to cover the damages.
"I want to recognize the diligent efforts of all our deputies involved," said Sheriff Lupe Valdez. "Dallas Sheriff's Department deputies work hard around the clock, and I am proud to say they continue to help protect our communities."
Both suspects face charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
