Kettle Campaign Kicks Off With Theft
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - People who dropped money into a Salvation Army kettle in Arlington today had it instead fall into the hands of a thief. Someone ran off with cash donated next to a bell ringer at the Walgreens Drug Store at Lamar and Davis.
Salvation Army officials say the thief grabbed the kettle and took off running. That kettle was found empty in a nearby creek.
The crime was captured by security cameras, but the drug store is not releasing the video.
The Salvation Army just started its fundraising drive with kettles at more than 700 locations in North Texas says Pat Patey with the organization. "To start the campaign off this is our third day and its just a shame to have it start off like this."
Witnesses were able to provide police with information that could lead to the thief.
Salvation Army officials estimate between $150 to $200 would have been in the kettle at the time it was taken.
