Ken Foote's Radio/TV Files: Would You Believe It's...........
Barbara Feldon's birthday!! 79 years young!
You may remember her from the NBC hit comedy of the 60's……..Get Smart! She played fellow agent 99 at C.O.N.T.R.O.L. with her fellow agent colleague Maxwell Smart (Don Adams). Agent 99 was beautiful and highly intelligent, always keeping Max in line, who was famous for the line, "Would you believe……..?", used to try to convince someone of something to get him and/or her out of jam. Between them they battled the agents of K.A.O.S. and kept us safe! Bernie Kopell, who later starred in The Love Boat, played the role of Conrad Siegfried ("You know, you're the only human being I know who snores when he's awake!).
When Barbara started appearing in Get Smart, she had already become famous in television commercials for wearing a tiger skin rug plugging Top Brass hair cream. Her character was also named the "most stylish secret agent" in the 2004 TV Land Hall Of Fame Awards. Today she is engaged in the voiceover business.
A total of 138 episodes were made between 1965 and 1970. NBC aired the show Saturdays at 7:30pm and then 7pm. In 1968, NBC cancelled the show and it was then picked up by CBS for Fridays at 7:30pm. 25 years later, FOX revived the show in 1995 with Adams (as the Chief), Andy Dick and Elaine Hendricks but only lasted 2 months and 7 episodes.
Mel Brooks and Buck Henry were the developers and writers of Get Smart and what a great job they did. And we never really knew what Agent 99's real name was!
See you next time!
