"Hot Bench" Is Hot
I have been programming TV stations since 1983 and I have seen a lot of shows but I am liking a new first run court show Hot Bench (weekdays 3:00 pm on TXA21).
Billed as a spin-off from Judge Judy Sheindlin, the premise of this show is simple: a case is presented to a panel of three judges who frequently interrupt lawyers, plaintiffs, or defendant's presentations for some pretty tough questions, often times resulting in a rather high energy exchange of words, hence the name Hot Bench.
Sheindlin came up with the idea when she and her husband Jerry were in Ireland visiting courts there. While in a courtroom that had a three judge panel, she thought that this would be a good idea for the next generation of TV court shows in America.
The trio of judges are Judge Patricia DiMango and attorneys Tanya Acker and Larry Bakman.
DiMango is a former Brooklyn N&Y Supreme Court judge but her selection as one of the judges almost didn't happen. The producers had cast another person in that role last year but during some initial run throughs they realized that the chemistry wasn't right.
Sheindlin called the head of the NY State Court Officers Association and asked "Is there anyone like me in New York?" Well sure enough there was! After a test taping, DiMango was selected and as they say, the rest is history.
I really think you will like this show and I hope you will take a look at it. Airs weekdays from 3-4pm on TXA21. It is definitely different yet very entertaining.
See you next time.
