Sara Legvold says she planned to adopt a Chihuahua she saw on a rescue group's website. She called the the of Garland's animal shelter, and was told to call back the next day. When she did, "I was told they had to put it down because it was unapproachable. That was the word they used. She says they should have given the black, female dog more time to settle down, and says says the dog was probably just very upset because it had been in the shelter a couple of days...The city of Garland's Jason Chessher says the dog was dangerous. "It's certainly not the norm for a complete behavioral change, from a docile dog to an aggressive dog. I would never contribute that simply to a shelter environment." He says the dog the dog was too dangerous and tried to charge and bite officers anytime they entered the cage.
