Keller Woman Admits To Death Scene Tampering
KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman from Keller pleaded guilty on Tuesday to deadly conduct and tampering with evidence in the case of her husband's murder. The crime happened in October 2011 at a home in the 1400 block of Jacob Avenue. Police found Gregory Williams there with a gunshot wound to his head.
Michele Marie Williams had originally told authorities that an intruder broke into the couple's master bedroom, attacked her with a wrench and shot her husband. However, that story changed as the investigation proceeded. The 44-year-old wife later told police that she staged a break-in -- including hitting herself in the face -- to cover up her husband's suicide for the sake of her 4-year-old daughter.
"There were serious legal and technical issues with the investigation," stated Tarrant County Deputy Chief District Attorney Jack Strickland in a press release. "The defendant succeeded in destroying and doctoring evidence necessary to prove an intentional murder."
Williams admitted to knowingly firing a gun at her husband, then repositioning and cleaning the body in order impede the investigation. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors are recommending an 18-year jail sentence for tampering with evidence and a two-year jail sentence for deadly conduct. Williams must also relinquish her rights to insurance benefits from her husband's death.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on April 21.
