Keller School Warns Parents About Attempted Child Abduction
KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) - Some Keller students are going home today with a warning about stranger danger in their backpacks.
The principal at Willis Lane Elementary is sending home a letter informing parents about the latest attempted child abduction near the school.
An 8-year-old student was walking home from a friend's house Friday evening, when he was approached by a man in a newer model, green pickup truck.
Jack Mellander said the man asked him if he needed a ride and then tried to grab him when he said no.
"The story is about the fact that there is a predator out there," said Jack's dad, Bill Mellander.
Police released a suspect sketch at that time.
"A friend of ours emailed us a copy of the police sketch from previous incidents here in Keller," said Mellander.
His response was, "'Oh my God, that's the guy's twin!' And it blows you away!"
Police were notified about this most recent incident and promise to increase patrols in the area.
"That means that individual is still here in the community, and that scares me to death!"
Another Keller neighborhood is now learning it had an abduction attempt in late August.
The police report, which is circulating among homeowners, says a man tried to lure a nine year old girl into his car.
Just like Jack, she fled to safety. The description of that man didn't match the suspect in the other attempted abductions.
But parents say they're glad Keller has taught its students stranger danger lessons well.
