Kaufman County Reward Controversy Continues
KAUFMAN (CBSDFW.COM) - The search for a killer in Kaufman County has not turned up any suspects. Now, with no arrests in the murders of District Attorney Mike McLelland, his wife and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse, there are lingering questions about the reward money being offered for information on these cases.

Kaufman County State Rep. Lance Gooden asked many of those questions in an email, directed at Chris Heisler, the head of the U.S. Honor Flag. As a spokesman for a few of the McLelland children, Heisler said that he wanted to see the reward fund for tips in the cases jump from $200,000 up to $1 million.
Gooden asked Heisler to clarify that the money goes directly to the Crime Stoppers fund, and asked that any money he receives with the U.S. Honor Flag be turned over. Gooden said that he wrote the email in an effort to ease up any confusion about where donated money actually goes -- it should all go to Crime Stoppers, he said.
Heisler responded late Monday night, saying that the email was an act of politics. "So if he's trying to generate a response, here's my response. If the governor's going to put some money into there, why don't you put some money in there? You don't have to put it in the Honor Network or Cynthia's fund."
Crime Stoppers responded to Heisler's reward criticism on Sunday, and the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office added their response to his comments about the investigation on Monday. Heisler said that the McLelland children were "furious" over how the case is being handled.
