DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas County jury has sentenced an Irving teenager for strangling his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend.

The jury found 18-year-old Jacob Boyd guilty of murdering Rachael Wiest and today sentenced the teen to 80 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Boyd was 17 and a junior at Nimitz High School when he met Wiest last year to discuss their relationship. The two had broken up two weeks prior after dating for a year.

Police say when Boyd asked her to have sex with him, she refused and tried to leave. According to an affidavit, Boyd blocked the door, broke her phone and admitted to placing her in a chokehold for five to 10 minutes until her "face turned blue and her body stopped twitching."

He will be eligible for parole after 30 years.
