July Hasn't Felt Like July Very Often This Year

It was another stunningly cool day today, especially considering the calendar reads July 31.  Our high temp was a cool 81°.  Add that to the 3 days earlier this month we spent in the 70s and this is the second time on record we've had 4 July days below 81°.  The only other time that has happened was 109 years ago in 1905!

Overall at DFW it was a cool and dry July.  It was very wet in some areas of North Texas, especially north of the DFW area.  Less than an 1" of rain though at the big airport.

We have had below normal rainfall every month so far in 2014.  We're running a deficit of near 11" for the year, making this the 6th driest start to a year on record.  In fact, it's been a dry past five years.  The last time we saw above normal precipitation for a year was in 2009.  That was also the last El Nino experienced too.  With a weak El Nino coming on this fall, we hope we can play catch up in the rain department as we end 2014.
