Judge Sentences Failed Plano Gas Line Bomber Anson Chi To 20 Years

PLANO (1080 KRLD) - A federal judge has sentenced a Plano man to 20-years in prison for trying to blow up a gas main with a homemade bomb three years ago.
Anson Chi made his own explosive device and attempted to blow up the gas main at Parker and Coit back in July of 2012. Instead, his plan to cause destruction blew up in his face - literally.
Since then, the case has taken many strange twists and turns including Chi firing his legal team and choosing to represent himself in the case.
Federal prosecutor Andrew Stover says the 20-year prison term includes a 'terrorism enhancement' because Chi intended to send a message to the federal government.
Stover feels the sentence is fair and sends the right message to the community about how seriously the U.s. Government takes terrorism, even if it blows up a person's own face.
During past court hearings and testimony some described Chi as an anti-government zealot with anger issues. In the years leading up to the explosion, his lashing out against what he called government oppression included Facebook postings criticizing the Federal Reserve.
