Jones Supports NFL, Goodell's Handling Of Rice Situation
DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones is standing behind embattled NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and believes an investigation into the commissioner's handling of the controversial Ray Rice case will not result in discipline of Goodell.
"He's been a very good commissioner," Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan with "G-Bag Nation. "He's acknowledged that he's mishandled this, and he's said that he'll do better in the future. He can and I believe he will."
Jones says he believes Goodell's claim that the commissioner's office had not viewed the incriminating video tape that shows Ravens star Rice knocking out Janay Rice in the elevator of a casino in February. The video, obtained by TMZ, pushed Goodell into a suspension of Rice and pushes Goodell's credibility into question.
"(Goodell) said he did not (know of the video) and I believe him," Jones said. "But the good news (is) we've opened up a real investigation, unfettered investigation, and I think we need to let that show us the results and let it unfold."
The league has hired former FBI chief Robert Mueller III to lead an investigation of the Rice matter and Goodell's handling of it.
