Jones Says Garrett Will Decide Who Calls Plays

IRVING (CBS 11 SPORTS) - Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has clarified that it will be Jason Garrett's call on who the team's offensive play caller will be in 2013.

"We've got the right man putting this together in Jason Garrett," Jones said in a Wednesday interview that's posted on the team's website.

When asked if a decision has been made on who will make the offensive play calls, Jones replied "I must say this...It has never been an issue with Jason Garrett, never.  That was his GM.  That was me.  It's been me who has said I prefer the head coach to be the play caller.

"To the extent that he … he decides … that he'd rather do it another way is not a takeaway.  It will be in his judgment as head coach of the football team the best way for us to win a football game."

"It doesn't have anything (to do) with a lack of confidence on our head coach's part about how well he can call the plays.  It has more to do with the positives that go with it, which everybody recognizes.  If you have more time to not be the busiest man in the whole organization, the offensive play caller, if you have more time to move around on every aspect of the team early in the week, in the middle of the week, and during game day, it can be a tremendous benefit from that."

"So, however he comes up with, how he wants to design how the offense runs, coupled with the fact that we've made the changes defensively and with special teams, I'm going to be excited about it.  We've got the right man putting this together in Jason Garrett."

"One of the things I'm happiest about is who we've got putting this together in Jason Garrett."
