Jones Charity Donates $100K To West, Texas Recovery
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A charity operated by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has donated $100,000 for recovery efforts after a deadly fertilizer plant explosion in Texas.
The Cowboys on Wednesday announced the donation from the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Charities to the Salvation Army.
"The community of West, Texas, has suffered a tremendous loss through this tragedy," said Charlotte Anderson, President of Charities for the Dallas Cowboys. "But they have also shown their strength and resilience in beginning the healing process as well. We hope that others will join us in supporting the efforts of The Salvation Army as the focus turns to providing the resources necessary to help the great people of West rebuild."
Last week's plant explosion in the town of West, about 70 miles south of Arlington, claimed at least 14 lives and left more than 200 people hurt. The blast also decimated dozens of homes and businesses.
Salvation Army personnel will be at Thursday's NFL draft party at Cowboys Stadium to accept financial donations from fans for recovery efforts in West. Donations are also being accepted online.
