Johnny Football To Participate In Rangers' Opening Weekend
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) --Texas A&M's 2012 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel will headline the pre-game events set for Opening Weekend at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Manziel will throw out the opening pitch on Sunday and will be joined by the Texas A&M University Singing Cadets, who will perform the National Anthem and God Bless America.
As previously announced by the team, the father of six-year-old Emilie Parker, who was killed in the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, will throw out the opening pitch in the home opener on Friday. Texas country recording artist Jack Ingram will perform the National Anthem.
A pre-game ceremony on Saturday will honor Adrian Beltre -- who was awarded 2012 Rawlings Gold and Platinum Gloves -- and A.J. Pierzynski, who won the 2012 Silver Slugger Award at the catcher position. The first 30,000 fans will receive a 2013 Rangers Calendar.
The Rangers will face the Los Angeles Angels in each of the first three games before the Tampa Bay Rays come to town for a three-game series.
