Jim Haslett Out As Redskins' Defensive Coordinator
Jim Haslett is out after five seasons as defensive coordinator with the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins say in a news release Wednesday that the team and Haslett "have mutually agreed to part ways."
It's the first fallout after the Redskins finished 4-12 for their sixth last-place finish in the past seven seasons.
In Haslett's five seasons with Washington -- four under head coach Mike Shanahan, and one under Jay Gruden -- the Redskins ranked no better than 20th in the 32-team NFL in points allowed, including 30th and 29th the past two years.
General manager Bruce Allen is scheduled to hold a news conference later Wednesday.
Haslett spent 8 years as player in the NFL. He was selected in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills as a linebacker where he played until 1985, and then with the New York Jets in 1987. He was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year for 1979.
His has spent several years as a defensive coordinator but got his first head coaching gig with the New Orleans Saints from 2000-2005.
