Jerry's Cowboys Lieutenants Remaining In Command

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Jerry Jones' lieutenants are remaining in command.
"I certainly have evaluated and looked at Jason (Garrett's) situation and am not looking at any changes there,'' the Cowboys owner tells me. "Let me be really clear: There's no thought of replacing Jason. At all.''
Meanwhile, there is also no thought on the part of Will McClay regarding leaving the Cowboys, as he's turned down interview opportunities elsewhere as part of his stated desire to continue on as Dallas' scouting guru.
"We certainly think highly of Will and what we've put together back there in the scouting department," Cowboys COO Stephen Jones tells 105.3 The Fan's G-Bag Nation. "I think he feels like there's unfinished business and wants to be here. So it's certainly a compliment to us that he's not interested in interviewing to be a general manager this year.''
So Garrett is staying for reasons that, in the Joneses' eyes, overwhelm 4-12. (He won 13 games last year, remember.) McClay is staying even though he is worthy of GM candidacy elsewhere. (McClay doesn't have the GM title in Dallas — officially he's the "senior director of personnel.'' But he wields power and commands respect and is central to Valley Ranch chemistry.)
Oh, and Stephen obviously is hanging around, as deserving of a huge chunk of Jerry's 2014 "NFL Executive of the Year'' award as anyone.
In a way, while Jerry remains atop the organizational depth chart and in a "general manager'' in the sense the he "generally manages'' the company that is the Dallas Cowboys, he oversees a trio of "assistant GM's,'' if you will: Stephen, with the COO title, and then under him, Garrett and McClay, both of whom have the ear and the trust of the Joneses.
"We know,'' Stephen said of McClay, "that he's one of the up-and-coming bright stars in this league."
And they hope that the Cowboys, under the direction of Jerry Jones' lieutenants, are up-and-coming as well.
