Jerry Jones On Claiborne: 'We're Not Giving Up On Him'
IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- When a player is drafted with the sixth overall pick, expectations are high. After three seasons, the expectations have clearly changed for Cowboys cornerback Mo Claiborne.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones discussed his struggling corner, who was frequently targeted and beaten in Dallas' 34-31 win over St. Louis on Sunday.
"Is he what we had hoped for at this point when we drafted him with the sixth pick -- and gave up a pick to go up to the sixth pick to get him? No," said Jones with Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan. "But he's gonna be a good player."
Jones specifically credits Mo for his ability to play the ball, which was highlighted in his game-ending interception in St. Louis. In fact, Jones says that Claiborne almost became a wide receiver at LSU, where he became a unanimous All-American corner.

It's that ability that has prevented the Cowboys from giving up on their 2012 first round selection.
"He's got too much skill out there to not continue persistently and diligently to get him to where he can work within the defense and make those kind of plays for us. We're not giving up on him at all."
Jones was non-committal on whether or not Claiborne would start on Sunday against the Saints over recently-returned corner Orlando Scandrick, who is "playing lights out".
"We'll have to see how they practice this week and go from there."
