Jerry Jones: "We Are Running Out Of Time"

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Jerry Jones joined G-Bag Nation on Tuesday morning and addressed the state of the Cowboys following a 38-31 loss to the Washington Redskins.

The loss dropped the Cowboys to 5-6 on the season, a record that Jones clearly wasn't expecting 11 games into the season.

"Well I thought we'd be better than this," said Jones. "I knew we were in a league that has a lot of competition, but I thought we'd be better."

Jones points to a lack of consistency as the team's biggest problem.

But don't point the finger at any one person. He believes the coaches and players are equally responsible for the team's lackluster performance.

So Jerry, does the team still have time this season to get it right?

"Getting it right - we do, yes," said Jones. "We are running out of time as to the playoffs."

With five games remaining, the Cowboys sit two games back of the Giants in the NFC East and a game out of the Wild Card race. The team hosts Philadelphia on Sunday night.

"Do we have enough time? It's numerically possible," said Jones, "but you've got to really step out here this week and do the right things to win a ballgame on the field. But you have time to do that."

Still, even if the season is lost, there are still reasons to play well in the final stretch of the season.

"You want to be playing well so that you can basically look at your core and see where you are with your core," said Jones. "Evaluate your core as far as seasons to come. There are several reasons for playing well and there's no lack of incentives in pro football. Because players know that they have the eye of the league - the eye of not only the Cowboys, but everyone's on them."
