Jerry Jones Says Cowboys Will Play For Bye Against Redskins

IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- Regardless of the outcome on Sunday in Washington, the Dallas Cowboys appear to be locked into the NFC's No. 3 seed heading into the playoffs.

But should the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks lose on Sunday (or Green Bay and Detroit tie), Dallas could potentially earn a first-round bye. Though a long shot -- it's still a shot.

"We won't know anything," said Jones, referring to the Cowboys' noon kickoff. "It would be a catastrophe if we walked up there and pulled back a little bit, and then had a chance to get that first round bye. We won't know anything until way after our games are over about any of the combinations that might occur to get us a bye, but we want to play for it. That's what we'll do."

Among the question marks on Sunday is the NFL's leading rusher, DeMarco Murray, who missed Thursday's practice with an unknown sickness.

Jones says he could have practiced on Thursday, but everyone agreed rest was the better option.

Quarterback Tony Romo, linebacker Rolando McClain, and guard Zack Martin: Is the plan to play each of them in an "all out" attempt to beat the Redskins?

"Completely. That is the plan," said Jones. "We've prepared in practicing going about it that way."

While Jason Garrett has delivered a similar message this week, one has to wonder if Dallas will expose Romo to a Washington defense that sent him to the locker room and forced him to miss a game just two months ago.

After re-committing to the team's aggressive game plan, Jerry acknowledged that Washington officials could catch wind of his comments. He close by offering the following statement, throwing everything previously said into question.

"Do you really think I'm going to give our real gameplan?" asked Jerry. "No. But seriously, we are planning on playing those guys."
