DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Jerry Jones was very forthcoming in his weekly call-in with Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan.
When asked if 2015 has been a disappointment for his star receiver Dez Bryant, Jones said "yes, it has. There's no doubt it's been disappointing for Dez. He's got very high expectations and a very high bar for what he needs to be doing to help win ballgames." It certainly is (disappointing), we've talked ad nauseam at maybe why he's not had the kinda year we all expected. We all know that we've said it, but his repetition on the practice field, we like to have all of the players, the numbers of repetitions they get directly correlates to how good a game he has. That hasn't been what it should be, and then the fact that we've had to move around with the quarterbacks, again, the fact that Romo hadn't been out there impacted his season.
Not only has the season been a disappointment for Dez, it's been a disappointment for everyone throughout the organization. As Jones mentioned, Dez has struggled because Tony Romo hasn't been on the field for the majority of the season. When you look back on 2015 for the Cowboys, all of the discussion will be centered around their inability to win games without Romo, specifically, the backup quarterback position.
"Not having a young, upcoming quarterback in the system is on me," said Jones.
Jones has taken a lot of heat in 2015 because of the quarterback situation, but is it fair for him to be criticized? "Yes. It's fair," said Jones. "We should be criticized. We didn't get it right."
After contemplating taking Johnny Manziel in the first round two years ago, is now the time to finally take a quarterback of the future in Dallas? Maybe so, according to Jones, "there's no doubt when a top player on the board drops down there, you have to look at our quarterback need."
