Jerry Jones: Garrett Not Coaching For Job; Romo Not Ruled Out
IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Dallas Cowboys. Will Tony Romo play on Sunday? Is Jason Garrett coaching for his job?
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones jumped on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, directly answering at least one of the questions.
"I said early -- I did it purposely several weeks back -- I said that certainly in terms of looking at the future, [Garrett's] future is bright with the Dallas Cowboys," said Jones.
"In Jason's case, at this time in his career, he's learning leaps and bounds and learning literally everyday. I want our team to take advantage of that. There's been nothing in the time he's been a head coach, nothing in the time he was a coordinator and a player before that, that shows that he does not have the ability to do everything required to be a coach in the NFL...That's the basis on how I feel the way I do."

As to whether Romo can play on Sunday against the Eagles, Jones says there's still good reason for hope that No. 9 will suit up in the season finale.
"He is going through treatment, beginning yesterday," said Jones. "If that treatment has the positive implications that it certainly has a chance to have, then he should not be ruled out in any way for this game."

Jones said that, even if Romo doesn't practice all week, the team would be comfortable giving him the start on Sunday. Romo does after all "know the gameplan like the palm of his hand," according to Jones.
And while Romo is in considerable pain, that might not be the issue come Sunday.
"Tony will play with all the pain you want to deal him, but his doctor has to clear it."
If Romo can't go, the Cowboys owner shows complete confidence in backup Kyle Orton, who has thrown just 15 passes over the past two seasons.
"That's why we signed Kyle Orton for over $10 million three years ago -- just for this very occasion. Kyle has got a very strong arm, he's very experienced. He's going to really be able to step in if required."
