Jerry Jones: Dez Negotiations 'Not A Distraction At All'
IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the team's ongoing contract negotiations with star receiver Dez Bryant are not a distraction.
"It's not a distraction at all. It obviously didn't distract Dez, and it doesn't distract us," said Jones on 105.3 The Fan with the G-Bag Nation. "It's a meaningful contract to a degree that it does and will impact our financial management of our salary cap, which is a big part of what helps get a good team on the field. It deserves the kind of attention that we are giving it."
Bryant's contract expires after the season, though the Cowboys do have the option of using the franchise tag.
Jones points to Bryant's performance in London on Sunday against Jacksonville -- 6 catches, 158 yards and two touchdowns -- as proof that his star receiver isn't distracted.
Though Bryant previously stated that he wouldn't discuss his contract once the season started, the 26-year-old has began voicing his frustrations that a contract isn't done.
"It's about respect," Bryant said calmly on Wednesday. "I'm a very loyal person. But just don't test my loyalty."
But Jones thinks the Cowboys organization -- like Dez -- is very loyal.
"He's a loyal guy, and we're loyal guys. Of all the players that I've been associated with over the years, I've had a chance to probably have more personal interaction with Dez probably as much as with Michael Irvin in the 90's. We both have had a chance to show that we really work well together, we are loyal, and you can count on us...We can count on each other to work it out."

And if the two sides do "work it out," it will be in coordination with new representation for Bryant.
Sources close to the situation suggested to 105.3 The Fan that this week could be a great opportunity for the Cowboys and new agent Tom Condon to hammer something out.
While Jones wouldn't discuss any progress made on the deal, he would confirm that the two sides have at least touched base.
"We have communicated in the matter that you just described -- talking."
