Jerry Jones: Cowboys Will Stick With 4-3
IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- The Cowboys have been mum on whether or not defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will return in 2014. But Jerry Jones is certain about one thing: the Cowboys will not abandon the 4-3.
Jones was asked if Dallas would consider switching back to the 3-4 on the G-Bag Nation on 105.3 The Fan on Friday. His answer -- and emphatic "no".
Jerry Jones
Jones declined to specify if Kiffin will return in 2014, saying on Tuesday "We won't have the changes that we had last year in the coaching staff area."
Media reports are also linking defensive line coach Rod Marinelli -- a potential defensive coordinator replacement in Dallas -- to Tampa Bay, where former defensive pal Lovie Smith accepted the head coaching position.
But Jerry Jones declined to comment on whether or not Tampa Bay officials have reached out for permission to speak with Marinelli.
"We don't get into any of those kinds of things -- communication between clubs about interviews or requests," said Jones. "As you well know in the NFL, we're pretty strong with our agreements between each other -- between the players and the teams and the coaches and the teams. There's only, under certain exceptions, would you get involved with a coach out under contract for an interview."
"All Thumbs Up" On Romo
Jones was happy to provide an update on Tony Romo, who underwent back surgery prior to the team's week 17 game.
"He got the kind of immediate relief that you would want him to get," said Jones. "As I said, the nature of his injuries and the nature of what it took to repair it was not dramatic. It was not something that would give you a concern on a going-forward basis."
Jones previously stated that he expects his Pro Bowl quarterback to return in time for spring activities. On Friday, he gave no indication that the expectation has changed.
"All thumbs up on Tony."
