Jerry: Cowboys LB McClain Doubtful Vs Rams

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- On paper, the Dallas Cowboys look like overwhelming favorites heading into St. Louis, where third string quarterback Austin Davis will make just his second NFL start.

But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones realizes his team simply isn't good enough to overlook anybody -- especially on the road.

"This is no time to get smug with one win," said Jerry with the G-Bag Nation on 105.3 The Fan, reflecting on his first season with the Cowboys.

In 1989, the Cowboys finished 1-15. He kept the game ball from the team's only win.

Defensively, the depth of the roster will be challenged as middle linebacker Rolando McClain -- the team's leading tackler -- is expected to miss Sunday's game with a groin injury.

"I think you can expect him not to play, but he won't tell you that," said Jones. "We're not for sure when he had this injury. He might have had it earlier in the game. You listen to him, he wants to play and thinks he might play. We have him as doubtful of course."

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said McClain is "participating in the meetings, mentally and emotionally he's getting himself ready to play.'' But in reality, Dallas has spent all week working with Hitchens in the middle with Bruce Carter moving to the weakside and Kyle Wilber playing the strongside.

Though it's unclear what role cornerback Orland Scandrick will play in his return from a suspension, Jones does believe Scandrick can have a big impact in his first game this season.

"He probably had one of the top two or three training camps we had. He's a really top player."

The Cowboys are currently listed as two-point favorites by most Vegas books.

Among those who are participating in practice on Friday: Quarterback Tony Romo (strained back), receiver Dez Bryant (shoulder) and running back Joseph Randle (concussion).
