Jeremiah Wright E-Mails Could Emerge in Dallas Civil Case

Sexually-charged e-mails between a one-time Dallas church secretary and Reverend Jeremiah Wright could yet come out in court because a settlement has apparently fallen apart. Elizabeth Payne is suing Friendship-West Baptist Church, a mostly-black mega-church in South Oak Cliff. Payne is Hispanic and claims she was the victim of racism and harassment while she was the secretary for Friendship-West's senior pastor, Reverend Frederick Haynes who is a long-time protege of Wright. Payne was fired in August of 2008, about the time that Wright's incendiary teachings about race nearly derailed the candidacy of President Obama who was a member of Wright's Chicago church for 20 years. Sexual e-mails between Wright and Payne were introduced as evidence in Payne's civil lawsuit. An out-of-court settlement was announced last month but yesterday one of Payne's lawyers told the judge the deal was off. The lawyer also says they want to put Wright under oath to take a deposition but they claim his security detail has shielded him from a subpoena.
