Jason Kidd Announces Retirement From NBA
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Jason Kidd, the 19-year veteran who helped lead the Dallas Mavericks to the 2011 NBA title, has retired from the NBA. The New York Knicks made the announcement on Monday.
Kidd retires a 10-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA selection. He finished his career second on the all-time NBA career lists in both assists (12,091) and steals (2,684).
With Team USA, Kidd won Olympic gold medals in 2000 and 2008.
The University of California graduate played the 2012-13 season with the Knicks, averaging 6.0 points and 3.3 assists in 76 games.
Kidd was drafted second overall by the Dallas Mavericks in 1994. In his rookie season, Kidd led the NBA in triple-doubles and shared the Rookie of the Year award with Grant Hill, who was selected No. 1. Hill announced his retirement on Saturday.
After playing two-plus seasons with the Mavericks, Kidd was traded to the Phoenix Suns in a deal that brought Michael Finley to Dallas.
Kid was reacquired by the team in 2008 in a trade that sent PG Devin Harris and others to New Jersey. Kidd averaged 9.3 points and 7.3 assists in the team's 2011 championship playoff run.
